This wasn’t the post I originally had scheduled for today, but when I woke up this morning and saw these two big eyes staring at me — I’d left this on the table for my husband to see — I realized this black cat would be perfect for Friday the 13th.
Not that I’m superstitious or anything. I’m not. But I am a cat lover, and black cats have an almost magical beauty about them.
This cat is far from finished — it’s a scratchboard project I only began last night — and, in truth, it will be more white than black when completed. Yet seeing those eyes peering out of the darkness…well, I had to post this today.

Really nice start, I like this a lot. We had a black cat who recently passed and black animals are so hard to draw. I like this way, maybe I could bring him to life on a scratchboard. Nice one. 💜

When it’s finished, it will be more white than black, but you could probably use the same process for a black cat. It’s very time-consuming, but I’m also finding it extremely enjoyable.

I think I’m going to keep this “unfinished”. I have more scratchboard, so I can always do another one. This one just does have a mysterious feeling about it that I really like. Thanks for sharing your thoughts about it.

I love the way it seems to be surrounded by darkness. I’m going to leave it unfinished LOL. I can start another cat and finish it, but this one I’m keeping just the way it is. 🙂
