Something I Like

It’s always a good feeling, isn’t it, when we draw or paint something we like. This watercolor is simple, but I do like it. I like old roads, and I wanted a chance to practice more on trees, so I put the ideas together and came up with this:

Watercolor 160729 Road

I actually did this painting a little backward. Instead of starting with the sky, I painted the foreground first. I wanted to stay loose — but not too loose. Once I’d painted the roadway, I added the sky, and then I worked on the trees and foliage.

One thing I’ve been doing lately is observing nature, looking more closely at the shapes of distant trees, and taking note of the different tints and shades of green I actually see. In doing this painting, I tried to show a sense of aliveness in the trees.

I hope you like my quiet country road.

  1. Yes, I like it, Judith! 🙂 The painting invites a happy camper to take a road trip and smell the trees and enjoy the wind. 🙂 I think you are already where you want your painting to be. Wonderful, wonderful journey!

    1. Hi! Yes, I enjoyed doing the painting. Life’s getting so busy right now that it’s time for me to take a little break from art. I had planned on finishing out the month of July but didn’t have the opportunity to create the last two paintings. I’ll be back when things have settled down a bit more. I miss seeing what everyone is doing and getting my daily dose of inspiration.

    1. Thanks, Claudia. I’ve noticed that I use that “lowered viewpoint” quite a bit when I’m relaxed and having fun with painting. I’m so glad you like it, too. 🙂

    1. Thanks, Jade. Things have been so hectic over these last few weeks that painting a quiet country road was very calming for me. Time now for a much-needed break and a chance to “refresh” myself a bit. 🙂
