I’m still doing various projects as part of my personal “home-made” brand of art therapy. Despite my commitment to oil painting and related art activities, I do think it’s good for me to continue exploring what art means to me at a deeper level. There’s still healing to do.
But, I want it to be easy.
Maybe that seems to be asking a lot, but actually in this digital day and age, creating art can sometimes be as simple as cutting and pasting. Take a look, as an example, at this quick little collage I put together focusing on the topic of feminine power:
I like this. I love the colors. I love the images. I love that I was able to create something meaningful in only a few minutes. How? With a fun website called FreeMix. It’s a site that lets you choose a background — either from a selection of random images or from a specific category — and then add “cut-out” images. These image can be flipped, rotated, re-sized, and modified in various other ways. Text can be added, and your creations can be downloaded and also saved to your FreeMix profile.
It’s quite addicting, and the process is simple, indeed. What this means is that I can spend a few minutes at the site putting together a mish-mash of images to represent different themes, different emotions, different thoughts.
What am I feeling right now? That was the question I asked myself a few minutes ago, and with a few quick clicks, here’s what I came up with:
I could give an explanation for everything here, but that’s not the point of this post. This isn’t about how my art therapy is going. It’s just about sharing a “cut and paste” way of creating a digital collage that is sure to provide a lot of fun.
Of course, it can be used to make memes, to create Facebook posts, to put together fantastic little works of art that can be downloaded and shared. There are many different things to explore at FreeMix, and I think I’ll be spending a lot of time there, putting together lots of fun collages, and maybe discovering a few things about myself in the process.

I’m on it now actually. For some reason, I can’t view any of the image library. Maybe, it’s a loading problem. I was able to upload some of my own photos, so I’m experimenting.

I had to experiment a bit, too. Let me re-think… I had to select “background” first, I remember. I’m heading for the site now. Hmmm… yep, I think it might be a loading problem. Once I select “Create” then I have to choose “Background” or “Cut-Outs” but the images aren’t loading. I’ll try it again later.

It is fun, for sure. It takes a little “fiddling” to figure it all out, at least, for me it did. I do like the app.
