While some of the “Art Quiz” questions have been almost ridiculously easy (such as who painted The Starry Night), others have been exceptionally difficult for me. Today’s question is one of the latter. Do you know the answer?
Question: Name the painting technique that is executed entirely in shades or tints of a single color unnatural to the object.
- Sfumato
- Camaieu
- Sezession
- Gouache
Check back at noon (CDT) for the correct answer.

I had no idea! I’d never heard the term before. ๐

I have absolutely no idea!
But decided on Camaieu – before I saw the comment above. So that’s two of us! ๐

That is the right answer… but I’d never heard of it before.

Oh I’ve never heard of it – hadn’t a clue.
I just picked it because it was a bit like “camouflage!” ๐
Anyway, a fun quiz.

I had never heard of it either, although I had heard of “grisaille” which I now know is a “camaieu” painting done all in gray. I love learning new things in art.
