First, thank you for all the good wishes during my illness. It means a lot to me, and I’m grateful for the many thoughts and prayers. Today, for the first time in several weeks, I’m up and about in my little “art room”, and I’m hoping to start spending a little more time here each day.
While recuperating, the closest I actually came to doing any art was to grab a sketchbook one day and doodle a bit. I actually spent more time playing with my kneaded eraser, however, than actually sketching anything.
Like a kid, I rolled the eraser, stretched it out, shaped it into a long, skinny figure, and wondered what it would be like to work as a sculptor. I imagined shaping noses and ears and cheeks from clay.
Although I have to admit, it seems almost a bit “creepy” to think of shaping a face with my hands, I think this is something I would like to try.
Or maybe pottery, “throwing” pots with a wheel — or however it’s done.
I love watching glass-blowers at work, but I don’t think I’d ever be bold enough to try anything like that.
Yes, I’ve enjoyed watching art videos over the past few weeks, and I’d love to know what artistic endeavors you’d like to try beyond the usual drawing and painting.
What secret artistic yearnings do you have?
I’ve always fancied glass-blowing but like pottery, it’s beyond my crippled fingers!

I’m always amazed by watching glass-blowing videos. How does one ever learn something so delicate?

Glad you are on the mend. I would love to make felt wall hangings like a cousin of mine. 😊

Oh, sounds interesting! Have any pictures? One of my daughters used to do photo collages. She had a real knack for them. I always admired her creations.

Hope you get better soon and back to art. My daughter and I will be dyeing wool this week because we will be trying out making felted paintings! I am excited. They are absolutely gorgeous and I never heard of the artform until last week. I thought it would help me to venture out more in a different way.

Oh, that sounds incredibly difficult LOL. I do love metal sculptures. I’ve seen some great ones made from different scraps. Good luck with it! If you try it, please share pictures!

It won’t be until I retire (so maybe seven years ? ) . I’m hoping to do lost wax casting (I think that’s what it’s called ) and small pieces , likely .

I want to make chunky, sinuous silver jewellery!

Jewelry-making would definitely be interesting to try. It seems like it could be expensive, though. Have you made any jewelry in the past?

Nope! Not even threading beads. That sort of thing has been difficult since I was 14!

I did a bit of bead-stringing when I was about 9 years old. My sister and her friends (a few years older) got into doing crafty things like that. I wasn’t very good at it, but I could sure make big messes!
