R.I.P. Diego

Our California Girl  is no longer in California. She and her husband are now living in Arizona with a gorgeous view of the mountains and eleven elk that come to visit their yard every day. I look forward to painting several scenes from photos she sends.

Today’s painting, however, was a sad one. Liz is quite the animal lover. They always have several dogs and cats, and recently one — Diego — became ill. She lost him a few days ago, so in tribute to Diego, I searched through photographs and then did this quick watercolor. I used my gansai and a bit of white gouache. I did use a gel pen to add a few white whiskers, but they don’t show up well in the picture.

We now bid farewell to Diego as he crosses that Rainbow Bridge and goes to live with The Great Cat Spirit  in the Sky. Rest in peace, big fellow. You will be missed.

  1. I have lost 3 cats in my adult life. Two sister cats after 19 years 😢 And a couple of years, the buddy to my 13 year old kitty still with us. Losing a pet is so hard. I have no children, for me it’s like losing family. Very sweet painting of Diego. ❤

    1. Liz and her husband don’t have children — except for their fur babies. Losing Diego was very sad for both of them, especially since they’ve lost two very old cats in recent years.
